About This Place

Nestled at the end of Castro Street in Mountain View, Happy Lamb Hot Pot offers an authentic and inviting experience for lovers of Chinese hot pot cuisine, with a specialty in Mongolian flavors that uniquely blend tradition and innovation. This restaurant is a gem for those seeking the comforting communal ritual of shabu-shabu, where diners cook fresh ingredients in simmering pots of deeply aromatic broths right at their table.

The heart of the meal lies in their signature House Original Marrow Broth, a luxurious blend of chicken and beef bone marrow simmered for hours alongside ginger, garlic, scallion, and a medley of Chinese herbs like angelica roots and goji berries. This broth is rich, earthy, and silky, enchanting the palate with each sip. For those craving a kick, the House Spicy Marrow Broth delivers a complex heat layered with Sichuan dried chilies, cumin, and salted black beans, awakening the senses without overwhelming the delicate flavors of the fresh ingredients.

The menu at Happy Lamb is thoughtfully curated to satisfy a wide range of tastes. Popular selections such as the Special Lamb Bone Hot Pot showcase tender, flavorful lamb cuts that melt in your mouth, while the Juicy Garlic Beef and premium beef options like ribeye and Angus resonate with meat lovers seeking bold, savory notes. For seafood enthusiasts, the Seafood Combo Platter and Fish Roe Dumplings offer an ocean-fresh complement to the broth's warmth.

Vegetable aficionados will appreciate the generous portions of crisp, vibrant produce—baby bok choy, enoki and king oyster mushrooms, lotus root, and winter melon all relish in the broth's flavorful bath, adding textures that are both tender and satisfyingly crisp. Small yet delightful sides such as quail eggs and mochi bring a playful contrast and depth to the hot pot experience.

Dining here is more than just a meal—it's an interactive, social adventure. Guests rave about cooking their own food right at the table, making every bite freshly prepared and personalized. Mark Hassin notes the “big portions” and the quality of ingredients, while Scott Hobin praises the “rich but not heavy” broth and “super fresh” components, complemented by attentive service. Abhishek Ghosh highlights the helpfulness of the staff, especially when navigating the variety of broth options between mild and spicy—a balance that Swetha Valluru found “addictive” and “fun.”

The atmosphere at Happy Lamb is cozy and inviting, perfect for intimate dinners or friendly gatherings. The service strikes a careful balance between professional and warm, with staff eager to provide recommendations and enhance your meal. Laura Perkins appreciates the à la carte ordering style, which allows diners to craft their perfect ensemble of flavors without rush.

Whether you're a hot pot connoisseur or trying it for the first time, Happy Lamb Hot Pot in Mountain View promises a deeply satisfying, flavorful journey that awakens both the appetite and the spirit of togetherness. This is a nice place at the end of Castro Street. The portions of meat and veggies are big, and the service is good. The Ribeye and Angus were especially tasty. The king oyster mushroom had a nice thick texture, which made it really good. The sauce bar was a little disappointing, with some sauces looking like they had been left out for too long, and it could use more variety. But overall, this is a solid place, and we will come back.

Had an excellent lunch at Happy Lamb in downtown Mountain View! I tried the vegetarian mushroom broth with USDA Angus beef and lamb, plus bok choy, spinach, and quail eggs, absolutely delicious and full of flavor. The ingredients were super fresh, the broth rich but not heavy, and the staff were friendly and attentive. Perfect spot for a cozy, satisfying hot pot meal! Highly recommend.

Highly recommend this Hot Pot dine in destination. You can choose this place with family as well as a friend gathering. There is wide variety of menu to choose and waiter is very helpful with suggestions based on your choice and taste. The hot pot with regular and spicy broth is a just fantastic to taste spicy version along with to balance the regular one. Lamb Skewers one must Try here. There are around many parking areas being this in Downtown.

Always wanted to try hot pot and finally got the chance to try it and happy I chose this for first time. Definitely a great experience. We ordered both the spicy and mild broths to get the best of both worlds. The flavors were surprisingly addictive and the whole experience of cooking everything at the table made it even more fun. Must try spot.

One of the better hot pot places in the Bay Area. You order à la carte, which is nice because you get to pick and choose what to get. The broth comes out first and then the rest of the items come out as soon as the kitchen has them ready (no particular order). The beef and lamb is always flavorful here and decently priced. The veggie portions are big as well. Our meal for 4 adults was about $40 each, which included 3 meats + about 8 side dishes. It was more than enough food and we all left feeling full. The staff does their best to be attentive to all the tables, but it does get busy during dinner time. Be prepared for a wait if you arrive after 6pm. Luckily, there is plenty of free parking in downtown Mtn View and it's easy and convenient to find a spot.

Solid hotpot restaurant. Nice atmosphere and pretty clean. We can for lunch and they don't have AYCE for lunch which was a bummer, but the lunch specials were okay. About $21 for lunch potluck. The meats like ribeye, lamb, pork belly was pretty good. It just was a little on the quantity side. Quality-wise it was on par with most Happy Lambs. The service was great- and people helpful. There is a sauce bar- and everything is pretty clean. Again the service was 5-star, but yes, it would be nice to have some more meat for lunch. I would imagine dinner is more happening and a better deal and quantity, but this review is just for the lunch menu. Enjoy!
